First Preschool Program for the Performing Arts in All of Colorado Gives Kids Early Start
Colorado Springs, CO - September 10, 2007 - With fall around the corner and school starting, local area dance studios are gearing up for a new season of dance. Dance Unlimited has a full lineup for kids this year including community involvement, performances and competitions. New this year is the first preschool for the performing arts program in all of Colorado. The program is aimed to begin teaching students the fundamentals of dance at an early age.
Young children are not the only ones who benefit from participation in dance. College scholarships as well as opportunities to be seen by upper level dance educators are available to older students.
Many important life lessons are learned at dance studios outside of specific dance instruction. Community involvement, hard work and social skills are some of the many values taught that contribute to growth of self-esteem in kids. Dance Unlimited supports a number of charities throughout Colorado Springs. For 18 years they have performed at local nursing homes, spreading the joy of dance to all ages.
Parents also have the opportunity to participate in dance through a special family dance class where students, their parents and siblings can perform together. Family involvement is further encouraged through student recitals. Parents and friends can watch kids perform locally and all over the country. Dance Unlimited has performed at Disney World, Universal Studios, and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, escorted the bunny rabbit at Easter and brought dance to PE classes throughout the city.
"After actually getting to spend a few weeks with the students, I'm so excited about this year. The work ethic at Dance Unlimited is better than most of the professionals I've dealt with over the past twenty years and the potential is...well...Unlimited! It's such an exciting time at this school and it has invigorated my love of the arts to be a part of it," said dance instructor, David Combs.
Dance Unlimited has many distinguished instructors that make the studio stand apart in its education. David Combs, new to the studio this year, has performed both internationally and domestically. Throughout his career Combs has received distinction as a performer, stage director and choreographer. He has participated in Off Broadway, performed with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, toured nationally with an eighty symphony tour of The Music of Duke Ellington, which culminated in a Carnegie Hall appearance celebrating the 100th anniversary of "The Duke's" birth, and has performed for several years in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Anna Weslin, another highly qualified instructor, has an RN, MSN, CNS, BA and has been a dance educator for 30 years. In addition, Weslin owns a dance medicine clinic.
Dance Unlimited was founded in 1990 to provide dance students the opportunity to learn valuable skills whether on their way to a professional career in dance or not. Dance Unlimited has taught over 4600 students since their opening and offers classes in tap, jazz, Acro-tumbling, ballet, and cheer/pom. Dance Unlimited has been selected to perform at Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm as well as received first placement in national competitions. Several of Dance Unlimited's students have gone on to dance professionally, perform for theme parks, or become dance instructors.
